The first issue for a company entering the French market is often not the quality of the product. The real challenge is reaching the right companies that have the potential to purchase the product and the decision-makers within those companies. Lead generation transforms this process from sending random emails into a planned commercial effort that identifies the target customer profile, determines decision-makers, and creates contacts with a high likelihood of turning into sales meetings.

Having a strong customer portfolio in Turkey does not mean that the same results will be achieved in France. The sector structure, purchasing habits, decision-making mechanisms, local competition, and communication expectations are different. Therefore, a method that combines market knowledge with direct commercial action is required before starting B2B sales.

Why Should Lead Generation be Planned in France?

Not every company is a potential customer in B2B sales. While turnover, number of employees, or industry code can be useful for initial screening, they are not sufficient on their own. Whether a company truly needs your solution, its purchasing power, existing supplier structure, growth plans, and decision-making process should be evaluated together.

In France, particularly in medium and large enterprises, the purchasing decision may require the approval of multiple individuals. While the technical team examines the product's suitability, the purchasing department evaluates the commercial terms, the finance team conducts budget control, and management may make the final decision. Establishing initial contact with the wrong person slows down the process, regardless of how strong your proposal is.

A planned approach provides more than just a name and email list. It identifies which companies are priorities, which titles need to be reached, and what commercial needs can be discussed in the initial meeting. This way, your sales team dedicates their time to qualified opportunities rather than low-probability connections.

How to Determine the Right Target Customer Profile?

The starting point for lead generation is the ideal customer profile. Broad definitions like "all distributors in France" or "industrial companies" do not yield results. Narrowing the target may seem to reduce the number of companies that can be reached; however, it increases the quality of conversations and the conversion rate.

When creating the ideal profile, the company's area of activity, geographical location, size, purchasing capacity, technical needs, and current business model should be considered. For example, for a Turkish company producing industrial equipment, businesses that sell directly to the end user and those with a technical sales network are specialist distributors not the same target group. The message, offer, and decision-maker differ for each.

At this stage, the following questions should be clarified:

    • In which sectors does your solution provide a tangible cost, quality, or speed advantage?
    • What is the minimum size and purchasing potential of the target company?
    • Should your product be offered directly to the user, to a dealer, or to a distributor?
    • What need or commercial outcome should you highlight in the first contact?
    • Who is influential on the technical, commercial, and management side of the purchasing decision?

This framework is the point where market research connects to sales. A very broad list can create a greater sense of contact in the short term. In contrast, a well-segmented list allows the sales team to tailor their offer and strengthen follow-up discipline.

Not a Company List, but Sales-Appropriate Leads are Required

Many companies confuse lead generation with purchasing a company database. A database can be useful as a starting point; however, outdated information, general email addresses, and off-target companies add extra workload to the sales team. A qualified lead is a company that meets specified criteria and is suitable for a commercially meaningful first contact.

In a quality lead effort, the activities of target companies are verified, relevant departments are identified, and the right decision-maker or influencer is reached whenever possible. Then, the reasons why the company might be interested in your solution are assessed. This approach allows for the personalisation of each contact.

For example, instead of saying "we offer quality products" to a packaging manufacturer, it is more effective to present a concrete value proposition related to the company's sustainability goals, supply time, cost pressure, or export capacity. B2B buyers in France respond limitedly to general commercial messages that do not relate to their own activities.

First Contact and Follow-Up Process are Part of Sales

Finding the right company is only the first half of the process. The second half is to establish the initial contact professionally and to follow up correctly when there is no response. Email, phone calls, professional networks, and industry events can be mutually supportive channels. Which channel will be prioritised depends on the industry and the role of the target person.

The first message should be short, clear, and tailored to the recipient. Instead of explaining your company at length, you should state why you are reaching out and what the meeting could provide for the other party. The goal is not to make a sale in the first email. The aim is to create a reasonable reason for a brief introduction or needs assessment meeting.

The balance between persistence and professionalism in the follow-up process is important. It is unrealistic to expect results after a single email. However, sending the same general message repeatedly can also harm brand perception. Each follow-up should present a different commercial angle, a reference-worthy use case, or an observation related to the target company's activities.

How Should You Prioritise Leads for a B2B Meeting?

Not every positive response immediately means a sales opportunity. Some companies may be in the information-gathering stage, some may be tied to existing contracts, and some may be waiting for their budget period. Therefore, incoming responses should be evaluated with a simple prioritisation system.

Priority leads are companies with a clear need, access to decision-makers, appropriate timing, and openness to evaluating your solution. Lower-priority contacts can be followed up regularly but less frequently. This distinction directs the sales team's energy towards the right opportunities and creates a predictable sales pipeline.

When preparing for the first meeting, the target company's activities, potential needs, current supply structure, and the role of the person attending the meeting should be researched. Instead of presenting a product catalogue during the meeting, it is more efficient to focus on understanding the customer's current problem. Topics such as technical competence, pricing, delivery capacity, and after-sales support should be addressed as the needs become clearer.

Why Does Local Communication Make a Difference in the French Market?

Language is not just a matter of translation. Commercial terminology, the way the offer is presented, meeting discipline, and the method of building trust should align with the expectations of the local market. Being able to communicate in French can facilitate access to the meeting; however, the real value lies in offering an approach that understands the other party's industry and purchasing logic.

Additionally, the sales cycle in France can take longer than expected, especially for technical products or corporate purchases. After the initial meeting, there may be requests for samples, technical validation, price discussions, or supplier evaluations. Instead of expecting quick results, regular follow-up and trust-based relationship management create a healthier commercial foundation.

At this point, a team that knows the local market does not just schedule appointments. It evaluates the suitability of target companies, conducts communication in the right context, and strengthens your company's commercial readiness before the meeting. ADAL Consulting supports Turkish companies in reaching potential customers in a more systematic way through B2B lead generation and meeting organisation services in France.

Transform Lead Generation into a Measurable Business Process

Successful lead generation is not measured by the number of emails sent. The data to be evaluated includes; the number of targeted companies, the rate of decision-makers reached, responses received, planned meetings, qualified sales opportunities, and the conversion rate from meeting to proposal. These indicators show whether improvements are needed in targeting or messaging.

In some campaigns, a small number of high-quality meetings are more valuable than hundreds of general contacts. Especially for companies entering a new market, the primary goal is not the promise of high-volume sales, but to validate the right customer segment and establish a repeatable commercial process.

Growth in France can start with a few good meetings with the right companies. The important thing is not to leave these meetings to chance, but to manage targeting, local communication, and follow-up steps within the same commercial plan.
